Course Overview

If you're looking for an instructor who'll give you one-to-one mentoring and assessment of your code,  look no further than this workshop.

In "Creating Maya Plugins,"  The Matrix and Second Life veteran Karl Stiefvater shows you how to reach into the heart of Maya and change it to do YOUR bidding.

Rendering, animation, modeling - we'll cover all the major subsystems in Maya and show how to implement the tools YOU want. We'll look at the major APIs for interfacing with Maya's engine, including custom commands, shader nodes, deformer nodes, the DAG structure, shapes, etc, etc.

In the last two weeks of the course, Karl will provide hands on assistance to help you design and implement your own final project, allowing in-depth development in your area of interest. The nitty gritty details of designing, writing, and building plugins for Maya.

Each week the student will write a fully functional maya plugin, and at the end of the course the student will implement a plugin project of their own design.

"Developing plug-ins with Mayas C++ API is a very hard thing to do and Karl leads the way into it smoothly and effectively and, above all, with a great sense of humor! Thanks to this course I'm now able to develop my own plug-ins with a very straightforward work-flow. I'm really happy with it." - Luiz Amaral

"Karl has a big talent in teaching the things that really matter to understand and get you into this type of programming really fast. For me this has been the most efficient learning experience regarding computer graphics to date." - Marco Bauriedel

"The best course I've done yet. Great value for money. Please tell us about an upcoming writing mental ray shader course, as soon as it's coming !!!" - anonymous student survey feedback, October 2011

*This workshop has eight weeks of content, but will run for 9 weeks, with the week beginning 25th December being a break week.*
