Video game environment designer, LEGO concept artist and matte painter Simon Scales takes you through the art of creating polished, game-ready environments in this 8 week online digital art training workshop.
Simon will start with the basics - setting up an effective workspace to create a professional workflow. He'll then move into idea and reference gathering, and how to quickly generate interesting compositions that form the basis of worlds. You'll look at how to create custom shapes and brushes that can help speed up the painting and design process.
Moving through the course, you'll discover techniques to perfect your sense of perspective, scale and depth. Simon will then work with you put these into practice so you can speedpaint.
The final few weeks will focus on lighting and colour before Simon helps you focus on your best piece for a final, portfolio ready matte painting.
This workshop features weekly live web lessons, held at 7.30pm PST each Thursday and recorded for those who can't make it. To see what time that is in your timezone, click here.
